AG Bell - New Beginnings India

Listening Together

Co-founder, Uma Soman had the opportunity to interview four families in India and write about their listening and spoken language journeys for Alexander Graham Bell (AG Bell) magazine Volta Voices "These four families, represent the outcomes of those who are able to seek information, intervention, and can afford to do so. But this is not the case for many families in smaller cities and rural areas. While availability of the latest hearing technology has improved, a child’s outcomes continue to be influenced by a family’s geographic location or ability to relocate, ability to afford hearing technology, and access to high-quality LSL intervention. Regional organizations are working to support LSL outcomes, but more needs to be done. Families, professionals, along with companies selling hearing technologies, and the broader international community need to come together in raising the level of awareness and access to high-quality intervention services for ALL children who are deaf or hard of hearing." said Uma Soman Read the full story at pages 23-29#parents #india #deaf #hardofhearing #cochlearimplants #LSL #auditoryverbal
